Real Wedding: Arenal, Costa Rica

Forget about paper lanterns, bamboo ceremony arches and regular dinner flatware. This fête featured Moroccan chandeliers made of colored glass and finely hand worked brass, an active volcano backdrop and hand painted organic leaf chargers. This event was anything but ordinary, even for destination wedding standards.

The location was set for the base of the Arenal Volcano, where it emerges from the dense rainforest. This dynamic location proved to be a great source of design inspiration, specifically with all of the flame lighting incorporated into the event. Along with great lighting, the wedding couple, Kelly and Franklin, requested an outdoor organic environment that was boldly dressed with luxurious, richly colored decor elements. The Spanish flamingo dance was the theatrical theme chosen for additional design inspiration. What a brilliant combination of inspiration this turned out to be!

The wedding day came and the weather couldn't have been better in the mountains. The volcano was in full view from the hot springs where the ceremony took place.  Following the ceremony, Guancaste children dancers entertained the guests in ornate costumes {It was very sweet, as payment, Kelly and Franklin donated money to the local elementary school that the children attended.}. Everyone then made their way to a tent that glowed with warm candlelight. There were a hundred wine bottles with beautifully dripping candles among mounding piles of red rose petals and purple orchid blooms. One guest shrieked "Never in my life have I seen so many rose petals!" The night was magical for everyone involved.

We owe a big thank you to Julie, of Comfort Studio, the amazingly talented photographer that captured the above images.  We also want to thank Jonathan, from Virtual Showroom 360, who created virtual tours of both the ceremony and reception spaces.
