Costa Rica Wedding :: Mike ♥ Jenny

February 3rd, 2012

Today we feature the wedding our our dear friends Mike and Jenny! Being two exceptionally awesome individuals, we’ve known for years now that these two lovebirds were going to be on a long, adventure filled path together. We couldn’t have been more thrilled when they announced their engagements and requested that we plan and design their Costa Rican destination wedding. “Ummm…YES!”

Over the months that followed we found a tropical pool garden setting for the reception and scouted a secluded beach strip for their afternoon nuptials. The golden beach came to a point where waves dramatically crashed over black lava rock from both directions.

Costa Rica Wedding Planner :: Rustic Chic Wedding

November 21st, 2011

Today we have a special treat for you all. A while back, our work was featured on 100 Layer Cake. If you didn’t get a chance to catch that article, we have all of our favorites from this exotic, Costa Rican Wedding shoot right here.

This wedding breaks the mold of what a modern destination wedding could be. It incorporates surrounding farmland, jungle and beach, all integral to Costa Rica’s landscape.  It sheds bright tropical colors for a very natural palette and highlighted raw organic materials used for décor.

Eco-friendly rustic chic elements were used for every detail. Seasonal flowers, twine, recycled glass, coffee paper, driftwood, local hardwood, leather, and even stones were paired, and the end result was both earthy and opulent.

After a little location hunting, we couldn’t have more excited when we found a tropical tree with an a-symmetrical shape  that created an arch to frame our bride and groom.

An oversized dining table layered with many textural changes in organic materials, refines the tablescape and blends to it’s surroundings.  Typical dining chairs were replaced with streamlined benches made of 100% teak.

We commissioned a Costa Rican carpenter to custom design 30 of these benches for us, and we added these to our list of event rental offerings. It was a really cool process. With the carpenter we selected the trees, had them milled, and then found a design that would work well for all of those sandy beach ceremonies we design!

Keeping the focus on the tropical surroundings, chic lounge furniture, pillow seating and  teak serving trays created a tempting, gathering space for sunset.

We absolutely love this rustic chic style of wedding and had a blast pulling it all together with Comfort Studio. We would love to hear what you think. Did these cute-as-a-button owl whistle gifts just make you smile?

Restaurant Guide :: Tamarindo, Costa Rica

October 28th, 2011

For the best cuisine found in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, check out our staffs favorites. We’ve compiled a list of everything from places for casual, affordable bites to upscale dining experiences. Buen provecho!

Seasons by Shalomy  $$$

This restaurant is arguably the best restaurant in town with delectable deserts. The restaurant is tucked away in a quiet poolside garden, a few blocks from the main strip.

Sushi Club $$

With its stylish new location right down town, this restaurant has topped the list of great sushi restaurants in the area. There is a wide selection of excellent offerings, so, ask you server what’s fresh and order a lot of it!

Nibanna $$

Nibanna has an excellent location in the center of town.  With beach front property, a chic, almost Moroccan decor, and the option to eat right on the beach under tall palm trees, this restaurant is truly alluring. The seafood is excellent and there is a large variety of international dishes. We recommend making a dinner reservation for a beach table.

Hotel Capitan Suizo $$

This is one of the nicest hotels in town and has a very accomplished Swiss chef. The breakfast buffet is the best in town, however, it is a great spot for lunch and dinner as well. It is located a short walk from downtown, and, yes, it is right on the beach with a spectacular view of the ocean.

Langosta Beach Club $$$

Pictured above is the always amazing Langosta Beach Club Restaurant, captured by the talanted Toh at Bidrop Photography- thanks Toh! This French owned boutique hotel has great lunch, happy hour, and dinner selections. There are table options right in the sand, or, get your own private cabaña.

El Coconut $$$$

You will find only high quality service and ingredients at this restaurant, along with delicious food offerings.

Lazy Wave $$$$

Just on the edge of town you will find this colorful tropical courtyard restaurant with an  unusual assortment of fresh seafood and delicious salads on the menu. If you are feeling adventurous, you can try their stingray when in season. In addition to great food they have the best cocktails in town. You will find this restaurant tucked away, just past Bar 1 as you are heading out of town.

Happy Hour:

Witches Rock Surf Camp $

This beach hotel/restaurant is located on the north side of town. The happy hour menu is in effect from 5-9pm daily.  Sometimes you will find live music playing in the restaurant.  We highly recommend this spot for a cool drink and sunset viewing.

Le Beach Club $$

You will step onto the beach and enter a chic outdoor living room feeling space, with plenty of comfy seating for you while you sip on your sunset beverage of choice. This place is all about ambiance. You will find this bar and restaurant just south of Nibanna.

Vintage Wedding :: Seattle Wedding Florist

October 6th, 2011

This last weekend we headed out of town and made our way up into the mountains. Our destination, The Inn at Suncadia. This elegant lodge was the perfect setting for our Seattle bride & groom, Amber and Corey, who had family nearby and a desire for an intimate Pacific Northwest setting. Amber and Corey are also super fun people who make a point to make the most of the great outdoors and their wedding was no exception.

Every little detail- the vintage cars, burlap bunting, the insanely well dressed wedding party, hydrangea and blush rose arch- all amazing!

Other details we loved- black and white e-session images of the couple were displayed in the foyer, as well as large mounding floral designs that were arranged to welcome the guests to the Inn. The ceremony arch was rustic, organic and elegant, all in one – like the setting. To continue with a vintage design theme, a black and white car was on display and ready for the bride & grooms getaway at the end of the night.

Everyone involved was great to work with on this event.  Amber and Corey, thank you so much for inviting us to help you design your gorgeous wedding. Best wishes for everything good in your new lives together.

Real Wedding :: Lake Crescent Lodge, WA

September 19th, 2011

It’s Monday! Oh how it comes so quickly. Another great wedding week has come and gone, not to soon be forgotten. There are a couple of details from this wedding that we wanted to show you. First off, the LOCATION. wow. Below the noble fir and hemlock trees, legendary in the Pacific Northwest, David & Danielle found a lakeside retreat perfect for their homegrown style, intimate wedding.

Picture a perfectly aqua, glistening, mountain lake in the backdrop. Mountains were towering above the tree line in every direction and a quaint historic lakeside lodge stood nearby.  It was one of those weddings where the guests probably arrived and just let out a little sigh. So romantic!

Adding to the sweetness of this homegrown style affair, all of the ladies in the wedding party held pastel, vintage garden floral designs. It was one of the last events where we were able to harvest many of the blooms from our Four Winds floral farm, due to the changing seasons. Garden roses, dahlias, dusty miller, skabiosia, and  sedum were among the blooms chosen by the bride. Danielle also had dainty sola wooden roses added to her bridal bouquet. Wooden accents became one of the design elements that linked many of the details.

There was something really special about this wedding. It was elegant, it was rustic, and captured the best of the Pacific Northwest. We loved being a part of it. Thanks so much Danielle & David, and congratulations!

Floral Trend :: Sola Wood Flowers

September 14th, 2011

Recently we had one very pleased  bride bring in a package of these petite wooden roses she had just received in the mail from Europe. Being completely unknown to us up until this point, we were excited to play around with the new design possibilities.  First, we designed boutonnieres paired with the tips of herbs and dainty feathers, we then began adding them to her bridal bouquet. We loved the outcome! Sola wood… who knew!?

Again, just last weekend, we were able to incorporate these dainty wooden blooms into our brides vintage garden hand-held design, pictured above.

Over the years we have seen our share of floral alternatives, but never have we seen one so adorable, versatile, and completely eco friendly. We have a feeling that  this little bloom, already popular in Europe, is soon going to be popping up in the wedding blogosphere, popular magazines and tacked all over Pintrest.

Sola wood also goes by the name of balsa wood and tapioca wood and can now be found at Save-On-Crafts.

Vendor Spotlight: Sergio Pucci

September 6th, 2011

Hope all of you North Americans had an eventful holiday weekend! This symbolic end of summer most likely won’t bother those of you looking forward to a winter destination wedding right?  Why don’t you grab an morning cup o’  joe and find a quiet spot to dream about your upcoming wedding… while you’re at it, take a glance and get inspired by these gorgeous wedding images by photographer, Sergio Pucci.

Sergio is somewhat new to the Costa Rica wedding scene but in no way is he new to photography. In fact, Sergio was the first Costa Rican photographer who’s work we started following, after coming across his book, Guanacaste: Dream Land.

Sergio has been working as a professional freelance photographer in Costa Rica for the past 15 years. In that time he has also taught photography at the Universidad Creativa in San José. Now, Sergio has turned over a new leaf and is offering his incredible talent to Costa Rican destination brides & grooms (lucky you!). His wedding website just launched last week!  His previous website, with an emphasis on nature photography, is original and inspiring, to say the least. Take a peak at it too, if you find a moment.
